the gist: verdict is still out
alright. maria wendt has an instagram ad strategy that goes like this:
you're essentially making your highest-converting content evergreen. i LOVE this. it feels very pregnancy-proof — pieces from a year ago could still bring me followers, cheap. maria's team is acquiring followers for $0.50–$1.00. which is great, especially if you're selling something on the back end. (i'm not. yet.) but here's the math that matters: if you made $100,000 from instagram off 50,000 followers, each follower is worth $2.00. so you could spend up to $2.00 to acquire one and break even. a ~funnel~, if you will. so i wanted to dip a toe in, even pre-monetization. i analyzed my best views-to-follower content. (all running videos. of course.) video 1: 0.58% then i ran ads to those, plus some semi-converting parenting reels. results so far: parenting reels: 3 followers for $53.07. that's $17.69 per follower. those ads got turned off today. running videos: 26 followers at $2.97 each. still way above my $0.50–$1.00 target. but the direction is interesting. because here's the thing — of those 26 followers, one video accounts for 23 of them: i ran two campaigns against an ad set of 7 different ads. one targeted people interested in marathons and half marathons, the other a lookalike audience. so i'm turning off spend to the other 6 videos and putting the full $20/day behind 35in35 alone. few more days. we'll see!! ◼
the part i almost cut: i am terrified of ads. i don't think i've ever really won with them. for a while i was bringing in CF Design School sales (a $997 course) at around $350 a sale. a handful every week. we could never scale it. and every attempt i've made at running ads myself has been a disaster. so the fact that there's maaaaaybe a glimmer here is genuinely exciting.
what this is teaching me: people love a good story. which has me thinking about how to make the pregnancy-proof business build a more engaging story hook... ◼
same time tomorrow: 35 mile training schedule
we just keep getting better, kjl |
My from-h@#$ pregnancies killed my $2.12M business and my client list with Tony Robbins on it. This time, everything gets built "pregnancy-proof," so my life and business thrive on 60 min/day. Steal the playbook as I build it.
◼ the gist: my crying prayer maybe this is TMI. sharing it anyway. i recently posted a video about miscarriage. i didn't want to. i felt prompted by God to do it, so i did. it blew up. 72.3K views. then God put it heavier on my heart to talk about miscarriage. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, and somehow we still don't know how to talk about it. i guess everyone also eventually dies and we don't know how to talk about that either. trauma is just hard. then a memory of miscarrying came...
◼ the gist: the law of averages is brutal alrighty. first of all: this is unreal. sept 1–13: 1.53M views. +793 followers.aug 17–31: 13,375 views. -1 follower. i'm 25 days into posting for real, REALLY going for it. i don't know everything. but i'm starting to get the tiniest glimpse of how this game is played. the biggest insight? the devastating law of averages. i post about 8 pieces of content a day. the goal is for ONE to pop off. sometimes not even that happens. last friday, the reel that...
◼ the gist: spaghetti, thrown professionally guys. my 3-year-old had nightmares last night, so yours truly is running on 3.25 hours of COMBINED sleep. but i promised you what i'm doing daily to win on socials — i.e. this video with 369K views. so. no fluff. let's go!! please note this has been working for 4 days so i know nothing and this is all subject to change at any time!! i make 8 videos every day. all 8 go up as trial reels. the 2 winners get posted to my feed. here's how i pick what...
