the gist: pregnancy-proof is on its way
hi. good news and bad news. good news: i gained 200+ followers on instagram last week. the week before, i netted negative one. onward and upward! bad news: i still haven't cracked the code. which — typing that out is almost funny. kathryn. you've been posting for two weeks. but it is always a little devastating to discover you're not an instant prodigy. that the rules do, in fact, apply to you. at least a little. here's what actually happened: one video popped off. it's at 200,000 views right now. two others did great too — 65K and 49K. for context: before these, i had never had a single video break 5,000 views. so. ceilings: broken. and then since? nothing. crickets. ◼
the part i almost cut: after those three videos popped, i told my husband — out loud, with my chest — "ooh, i'm so glad i finally figured this out!" cut to four days later. me. following the exact framework i believed had cracked it. results: nope. my assumption of mastery is, at this point, laughable.
more good news: my average before the pop-off was about 2K. the videos since are doing 3K–5K. the floor moved. more bad news: after a 200K video, a 5K video feels like a personal failure. but that's the deal when you start something new. progress stops feeling like progress right as it becomes progress. so we keep chipping. get smarter. figure out how to win — so that when i do, i'll know what to pregnancy-proof. which is the vulnerable part. i'm not at step one. i'm at step alpha. maybe beta. i'm not even thinking about automating anything yet. i'm trying to make socials WORK (100K by EOY, remember) so i can eventually know what's even worth automating. what a rush. but what's life if you're not feeling like a complete idiot at something. it's wild how fast a new discipline exposes the good, the bad, and the ugly in you. so: not capital-W WINNING. but winning. numbers are pointed the right direction. here we go. ◼
same time tomorrow: the social protocol hypothesis (what we're testing this week for hopefully another pop-off or two)
we just keep getting better, kjl p.s. if you're not following me on ig, i'm choosing to believe you simply forgot. help a sista out. |
My from-h@#$ pregnancies killed my $2.12M business and my client list with Tony Robbins on it. This time, everything gets built "pregnancy-proof," so my life and business thrive on 60 min/day. Steal the playbook as I build it.
◼ the gist: verdict is still out alright. maria wendt has an instagram ad strategy that goes like this: post organic content if it pops, run ads to it now that content keeps bringing you followers long after the algorithm stops you're essentially making your highest-converting content evergreen. i LOVE this. it feels very pregnancy-proof — pieces from a year ago could still bring me followers, cheap. maria's team is acquiring followers for $0.50–$1.00. which is great, especially if you're...
◼ the gist: my crying prayer maybe this is TMI. sharing it anyway. i recently posted a video about miscarriage. i didn't want to. i felt prompted by God to do it, so i did. it blew up. 72.3K views. then God put it heavier on my heart to talk about miscarriage. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, and somehow we still don't know how to talk about it. i guess everyone also eventually dies and we don't know how to talk about that either. trauma is just hard. then a memory of miscarrying came...
◼ the gist: the law of averages is brutal alrighty. first of all: this is unreal. sept 1–13: 1.53M views. +793 followers.aug 17–31: 13,375 views. -1 follower. i'm 25 days into posting for real, REALLY going for it. i don't know everything. but i'm starting to get the tiniest glimpse of how this game is played. the biggest insight? the devastating law of averages. i post about 8 pieces of content a day. the goal is for ONE to pop off. sometimes not even that happens. last friday, the reel that...
